The guideline points out that the Chengdu-Chongqing world-class airport group will take Shuangliu of Chengdu and Jiangbei of Chongqing hub airports as the core, and nearly 10 airports such as Mianyang and Yibin as the backbone and important supplement. By 2025, the Chengdu-Chongqing world-class airport group will take shape and be fully completed by 2035.
"By 2035, the transportation routes of Mianyang Southern Suburban Airport will basically cover major urban agglomerations in China and key tourist cities abroad, with more than 60 navigable cities, and the annual passenger throughput will reach more than 12 million person-times, developing into a large backbone airport in Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle." The official said the guidance boosted the spirit and lit the pilot light for future development. Mianyang Airport will focus on the two keys of safe operation and sincere service, focusing on the construction of route network, improvement of operation environment and infrastructure construction, and constantly enhance the momentum of development. According to the "14th Five-year Comprehensive Transportation Development Plan of Mianyang", Mianyang is comprehensively constructing the "1+5" airport system supplemented by the southern suburbs of Mianyang, Santai, Jiangyou, Pingwu, Yanting and other general airports. In terms of transport airports, we will promote the reconstruction, expansion and relocation of Mianyang Southern Suburban Airport. During the 14th Five-year Plan period, we will accelerate the preliminary work of Mianyang new airport, actively strive for the opening of ports, strive to open international routes, deeply integrate into the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing double-city economic circle, and promote the coordinated development of Mianyang Southern Suburban Airport with Chengdu and Chongqing hub airports. According to reports, Mianyang Airport will have 55 routes, 41 navigable cities and 17 airlines after the change of flight season on March 29. The annual passenger transport target is 3 million, and it is estimated that 27,400 flights will be carried.
