The reporter connected with the traffic designer of the Chengmian Expansion Line—Sichuan Provincial Highway Design Institute learned that the entire Chengmian Expansion Line adopts a two-way 8-lane standard design. The section from Weicheng Hub (starting point) to Guandi Hub in Mianyang has a design speed of 100km/h., The section from Guandi Hub to Chengqing Ring Hub (stop point), with a design speed of 120km/h. There are already two expressways between Chengmian and Mianjian. Due to the large traffic volume, the construction of a third expressway will effectively relieve road pressure.
The third Cheng-Mian Expressway has 8 lanes in both directions

According to Zhang Dong, the head of transportation design of the institute, the Cheng-Mian Expansion Line is a new line with 8 lanes in both directions. It is parallel to the Cheng-Mian Expressway and Cheng-Shi-Mian Expressway and is located on the east side of the Cheng-Mian Expressway.
The line starts near Weicheng Town, Youxian District, Mianyang, intersects with the proposed Mianyang-Cangxi-Bazhong Expressway, passes through Shiban, Guantai, and Santai Yongming in Youxian District, Mianyang, and follows the original road "four to eight" Widen, renovate and expand the Mianyang South Loop Expressway to the vicinity of the original Guandi Town in Fucheng District; build a double track, passing through Xinsheng, Zhongjiang, Huanglu, Yongtai and other places in Deyang City, south of Xinzhong Town and the Chengdu economy under construction District Ring Expressway crosses; after Guanghanhexin Town, Lianshan Town in Deyang, and Guancang Town in Jintang County of Chengdu, it crosses Beihe, Qingbai River and Chengdu Second Ring Expressway in Jintang; then passes through Qingbai River along the Chengqing Expressway The district and Xindu District stop at the Chengdu Ring Expressway, which is connected to the main line of Longtan Road in Chengdu (Chenghua Avenue), with a total length of 124.9 kilometers.
"Vehicle-Road Collaboration" test section may realize fully automatic driving in the future
Zhang Dong said that the Chengmian Expansion Project from Chengdu Ring Expressway to Chengdu Second Ring Expressway shares a corridor with the Chengjinqing Expressway. Viaducts are used across the entire line, and more than 20 kilometers of “vehicle-road coordination” test sections will be built on this section.
The so-called "vehicle-road synergy" refers to the technical networking of all interactions between the vehicle and the outside world. Realize all-round connection and information interaction between vehicles and vehicles, vehicles and road infrastructure, vehicles and pedestrians, and vehicles and cloud service platforms. In the initial construction process, the test section will be equipped with radar, cameras and other sensing equipment simultaneously, and the section will be built into an open test field of "vehicle-road coordination". For vehicles that meet the conditions for automatic driving, they can free their hands when they come to this section of the road and leave them to the computer to drive the vehicle.
The relevant person in charge of the Information Network Information Department of Sichuan Jiaotou Gaolu, who is in charge of this section, said that after the completion of the “vehicle-road coordination” construction of the Chengdu-Mianyang Expansion Line in the future, it may be considered to reserve a dedicated channel for trucks. It can realize unmanned driving until it leaves the high speed.
The Mianyang section project has fully entered the main body construction
Regarding the news that full-automatic driving may be realized in the future, Zhang Dong said that the Chengmian expansion project has two owners, Sichuan Trading Investment and China Railway Construction.
Sichuan Trading is mainly responsible for the section from Chengdu Ring to Mianyang Yuhuang. The boundary between Weicheng and Yuhuang was invested and constructed by China Railway Construction. At present, Sichuan Trading plans to implement the "vehicle-road coordination" test section, and is considering setting up a pilot program of more than 20 kilometers from Chengdu Chengqing Elevated Section to Deyang Section. "In the long run, the whole line of Chengdu-Mianyang expansion will also reserve space for the construction of' vehicle-road coordination'. At the same time, power supply and communication pipelines will be built ahead of time. When the technology is mature, there will be no need to worry about related equipment entering the site." Zhang Dong said.
The relevant person in charge of the Intelligent Expressway Design Department of Sichuan Highway Design Institute said in an interview that in the future, the Mianyang section may also be fully automated driving, and there is currently reserved space.
According to the relevant person in charge of the 23rd Bureau of China Railway Construction, the owner of the Mianyang section, the Chengmian expansion project starts in Weicheng Town, Mianyang, and ends at K41+891 via Fucheng District, Youxian District, and Santai County, with a total length of 35.21 kilometers. At present, the mixing station and steel bar processing plant in Mianyang, including all auxiliary main project constructions, have been completed, and the main project construction is in full swing.
According to reports, the three cities of Chengdu, Deyang and Mianyang connected by the Cheng-Mian Expansion Line are the most economically developed regions in Sichuan Province. The construction of the line will help build a land-sea two-way opening corridor, improve the conditions for the in-depth development of the regional economy, and enhance the radiation driving capacity of major urban agglomerations. It is of great significance to promote coordinated regional development. After the completion of the Chengmian Expansion Project, it can effectively relieve the traffic pressure on the Chengmian Expressway, optimize the road network structure, and improve the traffic capacity and service level.
